How we began

Angela Light established Gentle Joy as a three bed licensed Adult Family Home (AFH), seven years ago, which focused on specialized care for women challenged with Dementia. She recently narrowed the focus of care provided in her home to one Hospice patient at a time. For 20 years she has worked in a wide variety of health care and social work environments and has over 18 years of broad caregiver experience in many care settings. Angela has also held an administrative position in social services for mentally ill and developmentally disabled adults. She has seen a growing need for new and varied services in our community for years, and finally decided to start fulfilling some of these needs.

She is also excited to be of service to adults recovering from surgery, chemotherapy, or any prolonged illness requiring strict adherence to traditional or non-traditional medical therapies. As a professional Health Coach with over 22 years of study and personal experience in natural food preparation, combined with alternative practitioner therapies, Angela has much to offer clients in this area. She can help you develop and carry out the often demanding and complicated schedules that sometimes result from alternative medicine therapies. She can also help you prepare scrumptious meals ranging from Alkaline, Gluten free, Vegetarian, Vegan and Raw diets, to more traditional home cooking.

Angela is the proud single parent of nine year old twin girls, and she has lived on and off what her grandpa called his "Moss covered rock" all her life. When she smells the salt mingling with pine and hears the ferry horn off in the mist she is home.... on sweet San Juan!

Service Details

Angela feels HOSPICE work is one of her life gifts. It is one thing on a long list of joys she would provide for free if her financial needs were already met. She is offering in-home Hospice care as well as still offering one hospice bed in her own home. She has "midwifed" many deaths in her unique care setting focusing on the whole person: body, mind and soul. She offers several alternative therapies to bring more peace and ease to her client. She joyously facilitates the resident's unique spiritual choices whether they be Catholic, Unitarian, Jewish, Buddhist, agnostic, atheist or otherwise. Angela deeply feels that faith in a higher power is a vital part of life: especially on the end of ones journey.

Angela designed the Long Distance Care Report to bring far away family members an extra pair of eyes to update you on your loved ones well being. Maybe you are worried that dad taking care of mom is begining to be to heavy a burden or just isn't safe anymore. Maybe dad has been living alone with a failing memory and you are afraid his dementia is becoming more critical. Perhaps Mom or Dad are already living in a facility and you would just sleep better if you had someone consistent to check on their specific needs. I will make an appointment with them and give you a professional oral report over the phone.

When a family member needs more support than you can provide on your own it is time to utilize our Care Team Planning and Management services. Not everyone was born a caregiver and when someone you love is counting on you for eveything, it can feel daunting and exhaust you. Let our experience find a schedule to navigate you through your day in a more wholistic way that balances your entire families needs.

We offer Medical Appointment Companionship with Record Keeping to individuals who may have become overwhelmed with medication changes, want help to remember everything the doctor discussed and recommended or as a temporary replacement for the busy family member who usually attends those appointments.

We offer Placement Services because sometimes it can feel overwhelming to find the right place for your loved one or even embark on the whole process of the actual move. Each facility on the island has different strengths, so relax and let us help you find the perfect match.

We offer In-Home Care to provide the deserved option of staying home as long as possible. We are all happiest and most fulfilled surrounded by the rich memories, friends and family which create our own homes and reflect our lives.

Sometimes all the little details in life can overwhelm us...that is why we offer Executive Personal Assistance. From checking mail, paying bills, scheduling your appointments, organizing and managing personal accounts and files. We will help your complicated life run smoothly.
